Florida Man April 6, 2018 – Killed 4 Animals in a Trash Compactor
FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. – Police arrested a Florida man for allegedly crushing 4 live animals in a trash compactor. The man’s alleged motive was he thought he would be fined for having too many pets in his apartment.
Neighbors in the building reported to the authorities that there was a cage with four birds, two rabbits, and a guinea pig in the trash compactor at the apartment complex.
Phu Trieu Tran, 45, was the man living in the apartment building. The building staff sent a notification letter. The letter said that Tran is not allowed to keep the animals in his home.
The letter also said that if he did not get rid of them, the complex would fine him $800.
The neighbors reported that Tran took all the animals to the trash compactor and tried pushing the button to crush the poor animals.
Later, a witness checked inside the compactor and found three dead birds and a lifeless guinea pig. However, the rest of the animals luckily survived.
Neighbors now feel threatened by the incident. They claim they no longer feel secure knowing they live in the same building with a man who dares to do such a thing.
I can not say I blame them at all.
It’s just horrific. I can’t imagine anyone who owns animals and supposedly cares about them would do that to them over money. If they think they’re going to get in trouble for having them, it’s alarming to think someone like that would be in our community. This was a statement by resident Ashley Reeves.
Witnesses later saw Tran in a shopping center, where police arrested him.
He could spend five years in prison if convicted with charges of four counts of animal cruelty.
Hopefully, his cellmate is a large angry animal lover.
Florida Man April 6, 2018 – 15 Minutes of Freedom
Fort Pierce, Florida; On April 6, police detained a Florida man only fifteen minutes after a prison had released him.
The man had not even left the prison grounds before police arrested him again and almost made it back behind bars.
St. Lucie County Detention Facility had just let 37-year-old Michael Lewis out. He was there due to a grand theft charge, reported in the arrest affidavit.
As soon as he was in the parking lot, corrections officers saw him suspiciously checking the doors of the parked cars.
A surveillance camera spotted the Florida man opening the door of a silver car. He then sat in the driver’s seat for about two and half minutes.
Afterward, he left the car and kept walking around other vehicles. Officers thought he appeared to be checking which ones were unlocked.
An officer approached to ask what he was doing. According to the affidavit, Lewis said he was just waiting for his girlfriend to pick him up.
The officers then charged Lewis with burglary, grand theft, and possession of stolen property. The police then escorted him back inside the jail.
Later a spokeswoman for the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, Maria Entner, gave a statement.
She said they still released Lewis that day but only allowed him to leave the building when someone picked him up.
Final Thoughts
Crushing animals is particularly heinous, even for Florida man. I prefer the dumb Florida man who manages to get arrested twice daily.
